Meet our team of volunteers

We are lucky to have a great team of leaders, all of whom gives up thier time freely to run Scouts.

Our leaders all have a “scout name”, often taken from the Jungle Book or after a woodland animal. This scouting tradition means all the young people can be respectful but still talk to the leaders on equal terms. There are no Sirs or Miss in Scouts!

Each section has a team leader, who will be the normal point of contact for emails and questions. They are supported by a team of leaders. Often an evening will be run by a different leader as we share the load or share different skills.

The overall group is led by the Group Lead Volunteer, who oversees each of the section programmes and represents the group for formal matters.  You first point if contact when joining will often be the GLV.

We also have a board if trustees who make sure we run everything safely and legally.

We also also have a strong Young Leaders team. These are under 18 leaders, who in addition to being an Explorer Scout support the leaders in running the sections. They have their own training programme as they work towards the young leaders awards programme. Many are also volunteering towards their Duke of Edinburgh award.

Without our volunteers, Scouts simply wouldn’t exist. Volunteering is a brilliant way to boost your mental wellbeing. It’s a great feeling knowing you’re helping young people get skills for life, and you might even learn a lot about yourself along the way. Want to learn more about volunteering?
